Fools Gold
I, Daybreak:
waded near the shore
tides flush with our hips
beads of salt water
citrine on your skin
melt away my worries
turn my heart liquid gold
pyrite in my locket
— I am willing to be your fool
II, High Noon:
heels rest on the dash
blind trust makes me weak
the coast is dazzling
sun-blushed pasty cheeks
roll up the windows
fill the cabin with heat
absolve me of static
— with the fables you sing
III, Sunset:
sipping on whisky
candlelight flickers
distorting your smile
dulling my shimmer
your golden guise fractured
my memories reform
my intuition was blinded
— until I found clarity in the stars
IV, Dawn:
alone on the cliff
near apricot skies
glancing at the edge
weary of the dive
we were evanescent
you wrote our paths in sand
the sun rose above the sea
— to let go of a future we planned
