I Told You Everything by Debbie Smith

I TOLD YOU EVERYTHING
I told you everything
I told you I’m not leaving the house today
Nothing feels right and nothing is okay
Sitting at the top of the stairs, facing you
while a ray of sun lit up the window behind you
I told you that yesterday was quite bad enough
a worrisome diagnosis is always tough
I told you about the crazy traffic and running late,
how losing my glasses was my fate
In a doorway was a shivering soul
crouched down, with no place to go
My heart sank—I told you so
I was glad to get home
I took care of you
I talked to you
I told you, I’m just staying home
I told you I was sad, tired and a little afraid
I told you—I need a day
I told you what I was making for dinner and who was on the phone
I told you exactly when the neighbours got home—
what they were doing and what they were wearing
You took it all in as if thanking me for sharing
I told you everything
Maybe tomorrow I can face the world if you insist
Thanks Spider. You’re a great plant to hang out with
