Winter Travels
Out of the warmth and into the night
where most would feel only fright
I stroll my way through snowy roads
As I calmly leave the light.
Surrounded by heavy silence and dark
obscuring any violent mark.
Many worry what lurks within
Yet my fear wears ever thin.
All around me I see death
as I’m buried in Winter’s darkest depth.
Blackened branches and shriveled leaves,
Only serve to sweeten my breath.
I see a light, a tiny speck
Growing larger with every step
The peace I love is fading fast
I know not which moment will be its last
Yellow light barrages my face
As warmth rips through the cold’s embrace.
Noise of life is unrestrained
Here in this bright warm place.
A different comfort can be found here
The thought that those I know are near.
While the calm and peace is now far gone,
The joy I feel is far from none.
